In Britain over 80 million working days per year are lost due to the effects of stress. Do you recognise any of these ?:- Headaches, Irritability, Inability  to concentrate, Sleeplessness, lack of concentration, burn-out, anxiety, eating disorders, mood swings, sweaty palms, shaking hands, high blood pressure. There may be feelings of being under attack,  lack of motivation, absence of joy, obesity, depression, aimlessness anxiety and Tension.

More insidious and much more dangerous, however is the role stress plays as a catalyst to the  onset of  other  more  serious illnesses such as :- Heart  disease, Irritable  bowel syndrome,  Asthma etc. This  extremely powerful and  very successful programme can help change your life for the better.

To add to this stress lowers your immune system and makes you more susceptible to illness, there may be other ‘unexplainable symptoms’, which have no obvious correlation with your situation.

By learning and using self-hypnosis as part of stress management it will enable you to become a calmer, more relaxed, positive person, taking control of, and dealing with your stress.

The altered state of mind that is induced by hypnosis (or by yourself once you have learned the process) is a very pleasurable, relaxing experience.

It is widely accepted that one of the best ways to control stress is to be able to truly relax, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally.  It is also widely accepted that the fastest way to achieve an efficient level of relaxation is to be under hypnosis.

So it is as simple as that. If you are in hypnosis you are relaxed, if you are relaxed your stress levels are well below danger level.

In most cases all that is needed is  a course of 6 to 8 sessions of Pure Hypnoanalysis to release the negative emotions underlying the stress, however, one of the most popular tools to combine with hypnosis in our experience at NoLimits is NLP as it allows the mind and body to lock into the freedom state of being a calm and tranquil which will not only help you to bring about a calmer future with less stress it helps you to maintain the stress free state.

We already know through many written publications the benefit of Reflexology, Hypnotherapy, NLP and Kinesiology as individual therapies and their effectiveness in reducing stress. However by combining these therapies in one very powerful programme, the mind, body and emotions are quickly calmed and the release and control of stress are soon mastered.

It is not practical to think that you can remove all stress from your life, but you can learn how to cope with it.  We cannot control the external events, but we can learn to control our attitude toward them.

NoLimits have researched and developed this programme to help achieve the maximum effective treatments. We believe that every person is unique, no matter what character, personality, rank, grade or class. Everyone is different.  People react differently to the same stimuli and each individual may suffer different levels of stress. That is why we tailor our Stress Management Programme to individual needs. We also know that one way to reduce stress is to remove the stressor from the environment. However this is not always possible to achieve and, therefore, if stress cannot be eliminated, you can learn how to deal with it.

What is stress?

Today we have six-year-old children committing suicide. How tragic that youngsters who don’t even know what life is all about have such hopelessness, powerlessness and futility that they have to take their own lives. Teen suicide is now being described as “the epidemic of the 90’s.

Many experts are telling us that we need to reduce our stress. This sounds simple, and great! However, you’re probably wondering, “where do I start”? Perhaps you are feeling helpless and decidedly uninformed about exactly what stress is.  You recognise that before you can reduce stress you need to have some knowledge of what stress is, what happens when it accumulates excessively. Also how this ‘Stress Management Programme’ can prevent it from building up and how it can reduce the stress load you may already be under.

So what exactly, is stress?

Stress is anything that causes an imbalance within the body. It can be from the external environment, such as heat, cold, pollution or loud noise. It could be from our working or home environment. Or it could be from within us, such as low blood sugar levels, increased acidity or unpleasant thoughts or emotions.

There are further triggers, which can come from within which have no consciously known origin and tend to manifest themselves as anxiety or in more extreme cases as panic. Sigmund Freud named this as ‘free floating anxiety’.

Most stresses are mild and routine and the body has many regulating devices to quickly restore balance. However, in cases of extreme stress the body may have to act quickly. The brain alerts the nervous system and a complex chain of reactions takes place, preparing the person for emergency.

Once the emergency is over, the body restores everything back to normal including blood pressure, heart and breathing rates, among many other physiological and chemical changes.

The problem our modern society faces is that often the ‘stresses’ we face are ongoing and the body and mind never really perceive the emergency as being over. As a result  the body and mind run in a ‘semi-emergency’ state for a prolonged period. This, combined with poor diet, no exercise and smoking, can significantly contribute to such conditions as Gastritis, Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Peptic Ulcers, Hypertension, Asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Migraine, Headaches, Anxiety and Depression.

The greatest stressors are psychic stressors, the unpleasant emotions.

It has been shown that stress may increase the risk of Cardiovascular and Heart Disease, so prevalent in the Western world today.

Dr. Hans Selye, the world- renowned biologist who devoted his life to describing the physiology of stress, defined stress as “ the non-specific response of the body to any demand put on it.”

A mistake most of us make is to assume that stress is a result of negative stimulation only. Unpleasant situations create distress. However a very pleasant situation such as going on a world cruise or getting married still requires that the body needs to readjust or adapt.

Many people incorrectly use the word stress when they mean nervous tension. True, it has been learned from experiments that the greatest stressors are psychic stressors, the unpleasant emotions. However, anything that requires the body to adapt or re-adjust is a stressor. Therefore, as stated earlier, cigarette smoking, alcohol, junk food and inadequate exercise  are all stressors and we can decrease the body’s stress by eliminating the negative aspects of our lives. Some are easy to deal with and some we may need a little help with. You have probably figured out by now that our goal is not to completely eliminate stress  Instead, our goal is to minimise it and deal with it effectively.

Our Hormones and Stress

Pleasant memories, and great music from the past brings about pleasant feelings that go with that time or situation where we experienced them.  As we remember our physical state changes too.  Our breathing and heat rate might alter, we may blush, our pupils dilate and we begin to produce soothing hormones such as the endorphins, these hormones act as a  sedative and shuts down pain as effectively as morphine.

Equally, when we think about an unpleasant or stressful experience, we tend to re-experience the unpleasant feelings that go with that event.  And our bodies start producing stress hormones such as adrenalin and cortisol.

If we are in long term stressful situations such as an unhappy relationship or an unfulfilling job, we could be producing continuous high dosages of these stress hormones. These are designed to enable us to respond quickly in fight, fright and flight situations, rather than being a permanent high-level ingredient of our metabolism.

The effect of high levels of stress hormones for long periods is to change the way that the immune system responds.  This makes it less able to fight off invaders and leaves us more susceptible to infectious diseases.

Our bodies are a system consisting of billions of cells. Most of the time the system maintains itself despite the rigours we expose ourselves to.  It is no surprise therefore that we have a powerful mechanism for renewal, guided by some internal blueprint for perfect health.

Often, the most effective thing we can do for our health, is to recognise and remove the obstacles that we put in the way of this automatic ‘righting’ system – and allow it to operate as it is designed to.

What is it?

Each year approximately 4,000 people in the UK take their own lives as a result of

Depression .

Depression with Anxiety

Anxiety and depression can work together in a vicious cycle.

Depression can cause a person to feel sad, lonely and hopeless, and these feelings can cause the sufferer to feel very anxious indeed.  These feelings of anxiety can exacerbate the feelings of depression, and so the cycle continues.

The two main categories of anxiety symptoms, psychic anxiety (unpleasant feelings of fear, tension and apprehension), and somatic anxiety (unpleasant bodily sensations, palpitations, sweating, abdominal discomfort etc), can both be largely contributing factors to feelings of depression

It is quite clear from the preceding two paragraphs, how anxiety and depression can work together, each maintaining and indeed, increasing the effects of the other, until often it is unclear in the thoughts of the sufferer which came first.

People with anxiety also tend to avoid situations which might increase their anxious feelings, and this can in turn, lead to depression.  Similarly, people with depression might avoid situations, which can cause anxiety for them.
