People oflten aske me 'how does it feel to be in hypnosis' I usualy tell them 'it is that half wake half sleep feeling just before you drop off to sleep at night, a kind of cosy comfortable feeling where nothing else seems to matter other than your calmnes and tranquility'. The truth is there is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling as everyone is unique each person will experience hypnosis differently, however the most common feeling is that of complete relaxation. We all experience hypnosis just about every day of our lives, whether we are driving, daydreaming, dropping off to sleep at night, or are simply absorbed in a good book or film, it is simply and altered state of awareness where your conscious mind drifts away for a while into a dream like state yet all the while your is wide awake taking care of you. Your heart rate, your temperature etc are all controled by your unconscious mind without you even thinking about it, yet the whole time you aware of what is happening around you.
A good technical definition of hypnosis is: A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a heightened awareness induced by suggestion. The word hypnosis is derived from the Greek word 'hypnos' meaning 'to sleep', but is actually far from being asleep.unconscious mind
Hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis to unlock the capacity of the unconscious mind to bring about a therapeutic change. A skilled hypnotherapist brings this about by guiding the individual into a state of deep relaxation allowing one to bypass the critical thinking faculties of theconscious mind allowing access to the deep areas of the unconscious mind thus implementing liberating change such as freedom from smoking, bad eating habits, negative behaviour or to release negative emotions that are holding you back in life . Two types of hypnotherapy . There are two main ways of using the unconscious mind to bring about beneficial help. These are: Suggestion Therapy and Analytical Therapy (Pure Hypno-analysis}
Pure Hypno-analysis This is Faster, more Effective and more Empowering, than any other therapy available today. Click here to find out why
Sometimes in life you feel there are “demons” you have to confront. You don’t know where they originate from or why they continue to affect you in the present. Often these are most apparent to those near to you rather than to yourself. These are automatic responses or old programs that run in your mind like a reflex. Certain situations may trigger a “knee jerk” reaction. You may feel whether you quite recognise it fully or not that these “demons” may need to be dealt with before you can move on. There may be a new and much more exciting phase of your life about to open up before you, if only you could permanently erase this out of date behaviour or negative thinking that is getting in the way. Sometimes life reaches a plateau and you may need to “take stock” before you move on to something new. In looking back you may be acutely aware of ways you have behaved and responded that has limited your success or enjoyment of success. Hypnosis may be the way to reach into the past and resolve whatever it is that accounts for that self limiting or negative action. Pure (adjective): unmodified, untainted, simple, unaffected, true, clean.
Hypnosis has been in use for thousands of years. There is a great deal of evidence to support the belief that Hypnosis was being used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans - for therapeutic benefit - as far back as about the fourth Century BC.
Egyptians had very popular 'sleep temples' in which people were asked to lie down and listen to somebody chanting to help cure illness and problems as far back as 1550BC. Hypnosis translated from Greek (Hypnos) means 'to sleep' and while in the state of hypnosis, a person is very, very relaxed.Suggestion Therapy This form of Hypnotherapy is the most commonly known and sometimes referred to as 'clinical hypnosis' it is an effective and efficient way of resolving and removing unwanted habits, There is an added bonus in that there is a general boosting of confidence, well-being and calmness.
Suggestion hypnotherapy uses relaxation and carefully worded positive suggestion as a tools to help you overcome your habit based problem. When your mind is relaxed, it is much more likely to accept the idea of the changes that you want to make in your life.
It's a very relaxing type of therapy, and it can be used to treat things like stopping smoking, nail biting, and where time is short, things like the fear of public speaking/social phobia or the fear of flying. anxieties such as exam or interview nerves can also be greatly helped with the use of carefully worded suggestion therapy.
Modern hypnotherapy is a million miles away from the 'swinging watch' stereotypes of old TV and films... it's a real, psychological tool that works!
An added benefit of suggestion therapy is that you'll learn some very good relaxation techniques that you take away with you and use in every-day life. An example of suggestion therapy: Stopping Smoking One of the habits that people most often use hypnotherapy to overcome, is smoking. Hypnotherapy is indeed the most successful aid to stopping smoking that there is.
For most people, smoking is, quite simply, a psychological habit, and suggestion therapy can help the vast majority of these people to stop smoking. (For some, their smoking is a symptom of an underlying anxiety, in which case they can still be helped, but analytical hypnotherapy might be a better option.) While a person is in this more relaxed state, they find it easier to accept beneficial suggestions (e.g. "you are now a non-smoker").In Suggestion Therapy, the hypnotherapist gives the unconscious mind a series of ‘suggestions’. These suggestions, when absorbed by the unconscious mind, can enable a person to find it easier to do something they would like to do, or easier to stop doing something they no longer wish to do.
Suggestion Therapy is most suited to situations where its effects are needed to overcome a habit.
For example, in smoking cessation, the suggestions are used to help get the person through the initial stages … to a time where they no longer need to smoke simply out of habit.
While Suggestion Therapy has many uses, and can be extremely effective, it does nothing to reveal the root cause of a problem and is therefore used more for the habits, such as nail-biting, smoking, etc
Analytical Therapy or ‘Pure Hypnoanalysis’ What is ‘Pure Hypnoanalysis’?
‘Pure’ Hypnoanalysis, a special type of hypnotherapy, is an amazing therapeutic process, developed to help people to permanently resolve their unconscious anxieties and conflicts, freeing them from their symptoms and problems in life . However, to find out why Pure Hypnoanalysis taught by the IAH (International Association of Hypnoanalyst} is different from any other Hypnoanalysis Click Here
Analytical Therapy (or Pure Hypnoanalysis which is psychotherapy / psychoanalysis using hypnosis) can be very effective in dealing with the more deep-seated problems that many people have. 'Pure Hypnoanalysis' is not a new form of therapy: it has been practised non-stop since it was originally developed in 1974, as 'Hypnoanalysis'. In recent years it has been updated, made even more effective, and renamed 'Pure Hypnoanalysis'. IAH Members successfully treat around 250,000 people every single year with this amazing therapy.
How Does it work? An example would be a phobia. In a phobic, the fear experienced is out of proportion. they know intellectually that what they fear will probably never happen but it does not stop the feeling of panic coming about. Inside of oneself but outside of their control, making them feel anxious, nervous, the heart beating faster, they may feel hot and even break out in a sweat... That fight, flight or freez steps in and Logic does not help because this behaviour, this reaction is outside of your conscious control mind, it actually comes from your subconscious mind.
To cope with this, their mind must attach their fear to something … whether it is spiders, heights, snakes, open spaces … anything …’Pure Analytical Hypnotherapy’, on the other hand, does not simply ‘mask’ the problem…it seeks to find the root cause. Finding it, and dealing with resulting issues (cause and effect), is rather akin to emptying out a 'cup of anxiety' and usually leaves the originating fear powerless and so it then becomes easy to understand that lasting change can be brought about.
How can hypnosis help?
HYPNOSIS in a nut shell.
Hypnosis has been used for therapeutic benefit for thousands of years. It is totally natural, cannot cause harm, and there is no possibility of being controlled or manipulated. Hypnosis is not sleep; it is a very pleasant state of relaxation, in which your memory is enhanced and your sub-conscious mind open to positive suggestions.
The person in hypnosis may experience their senses more, and their memory may well be enhanced, but you are still capable of talking, and can open your eyes at any time you wish to come out of it. Most people go in to hypnosis at least twice a day. That period where you have just woken up, when you are neither awake nor asleep is the same state. You can hear all the noises around you, but you allow them to just be in background and not bother you, and you then have the choice to wake up fully, or turn over and go back to sleep! It’s the same at night as you are about to fall asleep. As in both of these cases, you are in control and if your name was called or fire alarm went off, you would immediately sit up with your eyes open.
Over the last two hundred years, hypnosis has been in and out of fashion. At the moment it is becoming more and more popular with the general public as an adjunct to orthodox medicine.
The British Medical Association now recommends hypnosis as part of a complementary group of therapies, with many doctors now seeking more information from therapists to help with the growing demands from the public for treatment without tablets. Many experts disagree on exactly what hypnosis is, how it works. But used professionally it can be a very powerful tool to use to the benefit of people who want change.
Hypnosis works because the conscious mind is relaxed enough to allow your therapist to work with the sub-conscious mind. This will take on all positive suggestions if it’s a benefit to you. Any negative suggestions are rejected, and hence you cannot be made to do anything against your will.
Catharsis. (an experience or feeling of total release and purification brought about by an intense emotional experience)
Additionally, analytical hypnotherapy can also be thought of as an interesting and cathartic journey into personal development and self-discovery.
The one thing that can become obvious with this beneficial therapy, is the progress that can be made with this sort of talking therapy.
It can be very rewarding and the gains can be immense.
What is it like to experience hypnotherapy?
To experience hypnosis is to experience a very pleasant state of relaxation, where time seems unimportant and anxiety melts away. Typically, clients will say that they have never experienced such deep relaxation. Yet, It may be a surprise to know that it is the client who is in control and able to reject any suggestions that are not appropriate.
The hypno-analyst and patient work together in partnership. The hypnoanalyst will take case study and agree with the patient/client what they wish to achieve through the process either with Suggestion therapy or ‘Pure Hypno-analysis ‘
When a person is in hypnosis four basic things happen: They achieve a deep level of relaxation, far deeper than can normally be achieved on their own. Their ability to remember things from the past is greatly enhanced. Their acceptance of beneficial and positive suggestion is increased. The senses of hearing and smell are heightened, hence a person in hypnosis hears what is going on all of the time and is fully aware.
The thing that most people don't realise about hypnosis is that it comes with a huge amount of scientific research. Hypnosis isn't magic or trickery, it's a process or, arguably, a state of mind which has been researched by many people over an extended period of time.
If you want to know how effective hypnosis is in regard to a specific issue or condition the one thing you can guarantee is that there will be some research information available.
Stage hypnosis and misconceptions It is unfortunate that most people's first encounter of hypnosis is through watching television and stage hypnotists at work. This can lead people to believe that they may be controlled or manipulated or made to do something silly.
NOTHING could be further from the truth.
At all times you remain in control and perfectly awake. Hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is just about relaxation. You may feel very heavy, relaxed, lethargic or quite light and tingly. It's just a wonderful, deeply pleasant and relaxing experience
